I never said that a long gun with iron sights could get better hits than an M4 with an ACOG. But an M16 with an ACOG will still do better
For you a 14cm difference in length and a half a kilogram in weight turns one gun into a "punishment" to use, yet an extra 10cm drop within the 300m effective combat range is a minor issue.
What about if this extra 10cm (on top of all the other aiming difficulties) causes you to miss the enemy?
How big does the drop have to be until it does not justify the improved manuverability of the shorter weapon? Is the AK47 trajectory bad enough (about -25cm at 300m, when zeroed at 250m)?
I also had the pleasure of serving with the A3, and the long M16A1 before that, and the long Galil before that. The only thing I like about the current M4 over the A3 is the low flattop receiver. I guess that we have different set of prorities
The Micro Tavor has a 33cm barrel like the Glilon. Do you really believe that the Glilion had an effective range of 500m like is clamed for the Micro Tavor?
I'm not sure about medeivil knights since they all left before I joined the pluga, but I think that they were made obsolete by a weapon which was more effective (the long bow) rather than one which is less effective like a rifle with a shorter barrel
Also, I would not be so quick to dismiss "old" ideas that have proven to work. Think about the 2006 tank crews that forgot about the old anti ATGM tactics that had been learned so badly back in 1973
Well since the IDF chooses to issue it to infantry soldiers (reserves), I have to assume that they think it is one
For real tank crews, rather than for tank soldiers that are used 90% of the time as cheap infantry, a Glilon is a much better choice then a Menusar
For me, the menusar is an example of a popolistic decision to give the soldiers what they want. How many typical IDF soldiers do you know that are really going to choose a piece of equipment that is more effective in combat over one that is more convenient to carry? Does the average soldier even understand/care about the difference?
