Australian company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) and Israel's Elbit Systems have developed a modular medium-calibre turret that can be configured for a range of platforms, including lightweight reconnaissance and heavy infantry fighting vehicles.
EOS said the T2000 turret, which was launched at the 2019 Avalon Airshow, includes advanced features not previously offered collectively in a fully integrated solution.
"We've taken the best from the two companies and put them into one turret," EOS Group CEO Ben Greene told Jane’s.
"No other turret in the world is as fully integrated; everything has been built into the body of the turret from scratch, there are no add-ons."
Main armament options range from a 25 mm to a 50 mm cannon, a 7.62 or 5.56 mm co-axial machinegun, and an EOS R400S Mk 2 HD remote weapon station (RWS) that can mount weapons up to and including the M230LF 30 mm lightweight cannon. An alternative RWS is the EOS R150 capable of mounting 5.56 mm to 12.7 mm machine guns.
An integrated, shock-isolated pop-up launcher can deploy a single Javelin or two Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles, said Greene. Unlike other turrets, firing the Iron Fist active protection system (APS) does not affect the operational readiness of those missiles, he noted.
Other features include Elbit's 'see-through' armour system, an integrated day camera, a thermal and laser rangefinder, a 360° laser warning system, and an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) management port for UAS deployment and operation, as well as counter-UAS systems using the APS radar for active detection.
