Monday, September 10, 2007 Caught in the act: New drone kills two insurgents planting IED BAGHDAD — A new unmanned aerial vehicle has conducted its first successful attack mission for the U.S. Army in Iraq. The Hunter UAV killed two Iraqi insurgents in a mission in the Nineveh province on Sept. 1. Officials said the Hunter, manufactured by the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries, tracked and fired precision munitions that killed the insurgents as they sought to place an improvised explosive device along a major thoroughfare near Qayyarah.

Officials said the Hunter has been the army's UAV workhorse. They said the successful mission would increase the use of Hunter for attack operations in Iraq. The Hunter has been equipped with Viper anti-tank munitions. "This accomplishment adds a precise and discriminate means for our army to successfully engage the enemy in counterinsurgency warfare," Col. A.T. תחמישי Viper (ולא טילים) הם גרסא מונחית לייזר של ה BAT, Brilliant Anti-Tank, פצצונות נגד שריון (פותחו במקור בשביל רקטות MLRS).

אגב, בדיוק על רקע הפוליטיקה הפנימית מעניין שבתיאור ה- VIPER ש- Deeop Space הביא לעיל מתואר כי הוא מותקן על ההאנטר מ- 2005: מעניין שרק עכשיו הופעל (או שרק עכשיו פורסם? )

לדעתי במונח improvised explosive device האמריקאים משתמשים לתאר
כל מתקן (מטען גחון, מטען צד, מבנה ממולכד), מוסתר שנועד להתפוצץ, כמלכודת.

בכתבה לא מצוין כלי הנשק שנעשה בו שימוש...
מעניין איך כטבמים מתמודדים עם רתע שנוצר מירי.

תודה. משהו כאן לא מסתדר לי - הכלי מאד נמוך וזוית הצלילה המפותחת של החימוש . ובנוסף - מה הטעם בשיחרור חימוש בגובה אפס ? ( או שהתמונה מפוברקת או שעיניי הזקנות בוגדות בי...)

אכן עושה רושם שמדובר בתמונת "אילוסטרציה", בדיוק כמו שיוסיפון אוהב

ניחוש מושכל שלי שמדובר בסרט מתקופת המלחמה באפגניסטן ב2001. אז ראה הרבה תמונות של שיירות טאליבן שהיו שאטנז של כלי תחבורה צבאיים ואזרחיים.

אפשר לראות את הכבלים שבעזרתם הרכב נגרר מאחורי הטנק, מה שמעורר את השאלה מי המטורף שאישר את זה, או יותר גרוע מי המטומטם שהסכים להפעיל את הטנק, כש10 מטר ממנו אמורה ליפול פצצה.
