Lower wages are one factor. Lets say there is a production line with place for 20 workers, soldering along.
the workers must produce very good results, you need workers who are dedicated, can concentrate, and value quality.
Sometimes they will need to work harder, or longer hours.
Finding such people takes time.
Training them takes time and money.
A new trained worker who quits or get fired can be replaced.
But those with some years of experience are real experts. They are real diamonds.
Replacing them is the crazy expensive, getting them to the point of experts is crazy expensive in time and money.

Most systems who contain electronic boards are built so that the board itself can be replaced quite easyly.
If a single component in a board fails, the whole board is often replaced.
Much easier.
Then come the testing of the system with the replacement board.
Testing will happen no matter if the electronic is produced by hand or by automation.
