The DF-21D, which has attack range of 2,700 kilometers, can be used to form a blockade against the United States and allies in the Western Pacific. Those missiles would very likely be used against a US carrier battle group in the disputed southern seas and the Taiwan Strait

Significance

• China's new destroyer is likely to have 128 vertical-launch missile cells
• The armament is expected to include the YJ-100 long-range anti-ship cruise missile

A military analyst, Li Li, has told Chinese state television that the new People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 055 destroyer will be equipped with 128 vertically launched missiles arranged in two grids of 64 cells, one forward and one aft.

Li's interview with China Central Television (CCTV) was reported by a number of Chinese online media outlets, including the semi-official PLA Daily.

Li also said the Type 055 would be capable of firing the YJ-100 long-range anti-ship cruise missile from these cells, as well as anti-submarine and air-defence missiles.

Argentina and China are to form a working group to look at the possible introduction into Argentine Air Force (Fuerza Aérea Argentina - FAA) service of a new Chinese fighter type, it was disclosed on 5 February.

The working group, which was discussed during a visit by between Argentine president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to Beijing from 2 to 5 February, will look at the possible transfer of a range of military equipment to Buenos Aries. Chief among this equipment is either the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) FC-1/JF-17 or the CAC J-10 fighter aircraft.

Ahead of any transfer of aircraft, the working group will examine means by which the FAA might integrate such aircraft into its inventory, and support them once in service. Argentina stands to receive 14 fighter aircraft should the proposed transfer go ahead, though no timelines have been revealed

Four armoured vehicle manufacturers have answered a Brazilian Army request for proposals (RfP) issued in October 2014 for the service's VBMT-LR lightweight wheeled multirole armoured vehicle programme

VBMT-LR is part of the army's Strategic Project Guarani

The bidding process, managed by the service's Manufacturing Directorate, closed on 23 January. Proposals were delivered the same day by Iveco Latin America offering Iveco Defence Vehicles' LMV vehicle; Avibras with the Tupi (a local version of the Renault Trucks Defense Sherpa Light Scout); BAE Systems Land Systems South Africa offering the RG32M LTV; and AM General and Plasan with the MLTV-BR

All four platforms were trialled in 2014 in Brazil and each will be analysed before the winner is announced and negotiations begin for a contract award

US Navy test shows Tomahawk cruise missile with synthetic guidance can hit moving targets at sea

A synthetically guided Tomahawk cruise missile successfully hit its first moving maritime target Jan. 27 after being launched from the USS Kidd (DDG-100) near San Nicolas Island in California. The Tomahawk Block IV flight test demonstrated guidance capability when the missile in flight altered its course toward the moving target after receiving position updates from surveillance aircraft.

General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, on Saturday christened the U.S. Navy’s newest ship, the USNS Lewis B. Puller (MLP-3 AFSB). United States will donate Boeing ScanEagle UAV to Czech troops deployed in Afghanistan.

The United States will donate the ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system to the Czech military to help protect the U.S. Bagram base in Afghanistan within the Foreign Military Funding program. The state-of-the-art drones, manufactured by Boeing, will fulfill a number of tasks in the Czech hands in Afghanistan.

The US State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Singapore for the F-16 Block 52 Upgrade Program and associated equipment, parts and logistical support for an estimated cost of $130 million. U.S. has handed to Pakistan armored personnell carriers and fighters used in Iraq and Afghanistan

The United States has handed over to Pakistan 14 combat aircraft, 59 military trainer jets and 374 armoured personnel carriers, which were earlier used by American forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. As the US withdraws its forces from neighbouring Afghanistan, the major defence articles have been transferred to Pakistan under its 'Excessive Defence Article' category, an internal Congressional report has said.

Romania, Thailand select Lockheed Martin's Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod for their F-16 fleets

The Romanian Air Force (RoAF) and Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) recently selected Lockheed Martin's Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) for their F-16 fleets, becoming the 18th and 19th international customers to receive this advanced sensor capability. Lockheed Martin will integrate and field Sniper ATPs on existing RoAF and RTAF aircraft and provide initial sustainment support. Pod deliveries began in early 2015 to meet operational need requirements.

USAF F-22 Raptor successfully test fired AIM-9X Sidewinder short-range air-to-air missiles

US Air Force's 411th Flight Test Squadron and F-22 Combined Test Force successfully test fired two guided AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles this year as part of the latest phase in getting the Raptor closer to using the missile operationally. The AIM-9X is an advanced infrared missile and the newest of the Sidewinder family of short-range air-to-air missiles carried on a wide range of fighter jets.

Freedom class Littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) arrived here to resupply May 13 after a weeklong routine patrol in international waters and airspace of the South China Sea near the Spratly Islands. United States to deploy B-1B bombers and Global Hawk UAVs in Australia

The US plans to station B-1B Lancer bombers and surveillance aircraft in Australia amid rising tensions with Beijing in the South China Sea. In addition to moving Marine and Army units around the region, Washington will be “placing additional Air Force assets in Australia as well, including B-1 bombers and surveillance aircraft,” the US Defense Department's Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, David Shear, said on Wednesday, as quoted by Foreign Policy.

Ukraine has returned to service four combat aircraft that have recently undergone refurbishment work, the office of the president announced on 5 January.
A pair of MiG-29 'Fulcrum' and two Sukhoi Su-27 'Flanker' fighters were handed back to the Ukrainian Air Force (Povitryani Sily/PS) during a ceremony at Ozerne Airbase attended by President Petro Poroshenko.

In addition to the aircraft, about 150 ground vehicles and other weapons systems were handed over to the military during the event.

The Government of Lithuania proposed on Wednesday the establishment of LITPOLUKRBRIG, the joint military brigade with Poland and Ukraine. Ukraine would like to boost production of main battle tanks by 2,300 percent in 2016.

Ukrainian state arms manufacturer UkrOboronProm said Wednesday, February 4, 2015, that it would boost tank production by an unprecedented 2,300 percent in 2016. Ukraine armed forces have taken delivery first batch of British-made 4x4 armoured vehicles AT105 Saxon. The vehicles were delivered to Odessa and transported by road to to Nikolaev and Kharkov to be upgraded. Ukroboronprom has purchased 75 armoured personnel carrier (APC) which were in storage in UK. The vehicles come with any weapons and will be equipped with a weapon station made in Ukraine.

Ukroboronprom to deliver updated T-64B main battle tanks to the Ukrainian army

The Ukrainian Defense Industry Group Ukroboronprom has announced the delivery of a new batch of updated T-64B main battle tanks to the Ukrainian ministry of Defense. The T-64 was developed and designed in Kharkiv (Ukraine) as the next-generation main battle tank in the early 1960s by the Company Morozov

Poland's President signed resolution on establishing the Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian brigade

President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski has signed a resolution on establishing the Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian military brigade, the Polish leader’s office reported on Monday, May 4. The resolution will come into force two weeks after it is published, which will allow Komorowski to ratify the relevant agreement
