IAI/Ramta Begins Deliveries of Armor Protected Caterpillar D9R Dozers under Contract Option Exercised by IDF
Jun 14, 2004
Beer Sheva, Israel: The Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd. Ramta Division has begun making deliveries of armored D9R tractors to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) under a contract option exercised in 2003.
Armored to protect both crew and vehicle during operations in hostile environments
Currently in use by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the proven military configuration of the venerable Caterpillar D9R tractor is completely armored to protect the crew and all critical engine, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fuel systems. The crew cabin accommodates a driver and commander, and comes equipped with fire suppression, communications and personal weapons retention systems. Ergonomically positioned armored glass provides maximum ballistic protection with high visibility, allowing the crew to view all operable vehicle components.
Multi-mission design, for a wide range of environments and tasks
The armored D9R has been successfully deployed to field units accomplishing battlefield demolition/construction, urban warfare support, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and demolition support, creating access and egress routes for combat troops, and clearing lines of fire. It is also well suited for operations other than war, including humanitarian demining, peacekeeping support, engineering tasks and disaster area operations.
Expandable capabilities for strategic flexibility
With a standard configuration that includes weapons mounts, storage compartments, external spotlights and projector lamps, the D9R platform also accommodates a range of optional equipment including smoke grenade launchers and a wide range of electronic / communications equipment.
Ramta is IAI's center of excellence for integrated military ground systems, including light-weight, high-performance armored vehicles, mine breaching, mine clearing, and countermine equipment for use in combat/assault operations, low intensity conflicts and peacetime/humanitarian demining operations.
