A: Yes, we recommend developers install the latest service pack for the best
performance.

Q: What does this Service Pack fix?
A: SP6 for VB6, VC6 with VSS6 (SP6) addresses known issues with Visual
Basic 6.0, Visual C++ 6.0 and Visual Source Safe 6.0. This service pack does
not contain fixes for Visual InterDev 6.0, Visual FoxPro 6.0, and Visual J++ 6.0,
as the mainstream life-cycle for these products has ended.

Q: What products does Service Pack 6 cover?
A: The Microsoft Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual C++ 6.0 with
Visual SourceSafe 6.0d includes all of the fixes in previous Service Packs for
updates to the following Visual Studio applications:

• Visual Basic 6.0 (Learning, Professional, and Enterprise Editions)
• Visual C++ 6.0 (Standard, Professional, and Enterprise Editions)
• Visual SourceSafe 6.0

Q: How can I get Service Pack 6, and how much does it cost?
A: Service Pack 6 is available today from the Visual Studio Web site, and is
free to download. It can also be ordered on CD by clicking here.

Q: If I did not install Service Pack 1, 2, 3 4, or 5, do I need one or all of them
prior to installing Service Pack 5?
A No. The service packs are cumulative, so SP6 contains all of the fixes included
previous service packs. You will get all of the fixes from SP1 through SP5 in SP6.

Q: How large is the Service Pack download?
A: There are multiple download scenarios to choose from. Approximate download
sizes are:

• Full (includes fixes to Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C++ 6.0, and Visual
  SourceSafe 6.0d) : 64 xx MB
• Visual Basic 6.0 fixes and Visual SourceSafe 6.0d only: 27 xx MB

Q: There are multiple download versions on the Web site. Which one should I
choose?
A: In order to ensure that developers can get the smallest possible download,
we have made two download options available, depending on the tools you use.
Below are the versions available.

Full: A superset which includes all the SP6 fixes. This is required for all developers
using the Visual C++ 6.0 development system or those developers using more then
one tool. This download also includes product updates for the Visual SourceSafe 6.0
version control system.

Visual Basic: Recommended for developers using the Visual Basic development
system. This download includes product updates for Visual SourceSafe 6.0 as well.

Q: Are there product and technology requirements for Service Pack 5?
A: Yes. The following products are required for this service pack:

• Microsoft Data Access 2.5 or later
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or laterxx

Q: What languages does the Service Pack cover?
A: The Service Pack covers all English versions of the Visual Studio 6.0 products,
as well as all localized versions. The Service Pack will detect the files you have
installed on your machine, and will install the appropriate fixes. Localized versions
include: French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Traditional Chinese,
and Simplified Chinese.

Q: What if I have localized products and English products installed on my machine?
A: If you have installed Visual Studio 6.0 products in multiple languages, you must
download SP6 for each language. It is strongly recommended that you first run Setup
for the language that matches your operating system.

Q: What if I install another product, or additional components, after I install the Service
Pack? Do I need to reinstall the Service Pack?
A: If you install additional components or products from the Visual Studio family, you
will need to reinstall the Service Pack to address any issues with the newly installed
software.

Q: Can I uninstall the Service Pack?
A: The Service Pack cannot be uninstalled independently of Visual Studio.

Q: I need more information, what additional help resources are available?
A: There currently is a Knowledge Base article available that includes detailed
information on the Service Pack. Other resources include: MSDN Online, Knowledge
Base, Newsgroups, and MSDN Online - Support Information. We will continue to
