IDF evaluates light armoured vehicle
Alon Ben-David JDW Correspondent
Tel Aviv
The Israel Defence Force is evaluating a new 4 x 4 ultra-light armoured vehicle designed by Arotech of Israel's vehicle-armouring subsidiary MDT Armor.
Dubbed the 'David', the vehicle 'offers armour-piercing protection for a crew of seven, wide doors for fast entry and exit of troops on a platform that can easily get in and out of tight urban streets and alleys,' according to Arotech.
The entire cabin, including front and rear doors, was designed by MDT and built on a Land Rover Defender platform. The David can also be built on a Mercedes G Wagon platform. The total weight of the vehicle is 3.8 tons.
'It's a small, fully armoured combat vehicle but it can carry more soldiers than an armoured high-mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicle and access tighter spots,' Arotech Chairman Robert Ehrlich told JDW.
