WASHINGTON: The CIA has been delivering light machine guns and other small arms to Syrian rebels for several weeks, following President Barack Obama's decision to arm the rebels.

The intelligence agency has also arranged for the Syrian opposition to receive anti-tank weaponry like rocket-propelled grenades through a third party, presumably one of the Gulf countries that has been arming the rebels, a senior U.S. intelligence official and two former intelligence officials said Thursday. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the classified program publicly.

The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal first reported the aid.

Top rebel commander Gen. Salim Idris told National Public Radio on Thursday that rebels had received no such aid from the U.S. The CIA declined to comment.

לתפיסתי זה מעיד על בחירת צד ברורה וכשאינך " מהאו"ם " כל הצעה שתעלה תעורר שאלות אינטרסים....
אגב ככל שימשיכו לחמש את המורדים העימות לא יוכרע ומאות נוספות של אזרחים סורים חפים מפשע יהרגו מידי שני הצדדים.

האמריקאים הם לא היחידים שחוששים משלטון אסד.

הסעודים והירדנים חוששים הרבה יותר.

השלטון העלוואי, מאוד מקורב לשלטון האיראני.

-המורדים ללא כל הסיוע שהם מקבלים מבחוץ, ממזמן כבר היו מפסידים.

למה אתה חושב שהאמריקאים חוששים משלטון אסד? אני חושב שהם היו חוששים יותר מהשתלטות איסלמיסטים קיצוניים על סוריה.

כלומר זה לא באמת הCIA אלא האירופים במימון של הסעודים...

קשה לענות על השאלה הזו אבל באפגניסטן תחת הרוסים באופן רשמי הפקיסטנים תמכו במוג'הידין מה שלימים התברר כיוזמה של הCIA.
כוחות "מיוחדים" בריטים ואמריקאים שנסוגו מעירק מוקמו בתוך ירדן סמוך לגבול הסורי ולכן קיים סיכוי סביר שהם גם מאמנים מורדים וגם דואגים לפן הלוגיסטי.
הכתב מציינת שמקור הטילים אירופי והמימון סעודי בלי אף מילה על הדילר המקומי.
