Groundpounder, the pay is based on your civilian job up to a maximum of aproximately 8500US$ per month of reserve duty. If you earn more than that on your civilian job you get the maximumal amount. It's not worth to risk your life for that kind of money considering you earn the same at your regular place of work. People usualy do it for other reasons, either they think it's their duty or they go to be with/help their friends in the unit. The most common reserve service for infantry is a period of training + a period of operational service in the West Bank - checkpoints, arests, raids etc. The core of an infantry reserve unit are usualy the same guys who did basic training together during regular service.
Oketz is a unit of dog handlers. A soldier is teamed up with the dog for the duration of the person's service, when they finish training they both get embedded into the regular infantry units and Special Forces.
Originally (in 1954) the goal was to train dogs to carry explosives and blow them up remotely (antitank/antipersonnel walking mines), but IDF no longer does that. (PR issues)
The unit specializes in training attack dogs specifically for use in hostage situations but also train dogs for tracking, explosives detection and search&rescue.
The dogs and handlers are routinely employed on checkpoints in the west bank to detect smuggled explosives.
