Hi,

I have tried to upload an image to show as my profile picture and i saw the limits:
100x100 and up to 8KB
i just wanted you to know that a blank white 100x100 JPEG image is 22KB....So it's nearly impossible to upload a good picture of yourself with those kind of limits.

the second thing i wanted to discuss about is that there is a problem in the forums editor in writing in english from left to right, the way you should write. There is'nt any option to choose the direction method that actually works . If i choose from within the editor to write from left to right the symbols moving to the start of the line even tough they were written in the end of it, To make long story short just try to write in english in the editor and try to type in a comma or a question mark.

Ohh ok i see this now, but why can't i just use the CTRL + SHIFT to get that? i've tried doing that in the quick reply box and the advanced reply and i got nothing in both.
only after i type in the [left] bbcode tags and press the preview button i can see the text written from left to right.

Well this issue can be considered as solved. What about the profile picture?

A blank white picture of any size should have a really small size, due to compression algorithms. Of course, for that, you must use a compressed image file. Which file format are you using? Did you use compression? Did you use the "save to web" feature available on most graphical editing software?

Like i said above i save the image files in JPEG format, and 100x100px blank white picture in a JPEG format is 22kb (i did double check this), I am sure that saving the file in GIF will make the file size smaller but the quality of the picture will decrease, I am not sure whether it is ok or not, But setting the maximum image size for 50kb wouldnt make any diffrence for the sites bandwidth and/or server capacity.
If there is still nothing else to do but compress the file and save it to a diffrent image format....Then so be it.

I didn't say not to save it as JPEG, but when you DO save it as JPEG, most programs have an option to set up "compression" or "quality". Usually the difference between 100% and 75% is not visible to the eye at such sizes. See DeepSpace's image for example...

Regarding bandwidth and server capacity - not so true. Usually your image will not be alone in a page - there are threads where there are hundreds of such pictures - and we have the bigger signatures too! This space is for simple icons, not more than that - if you want something bigger - that's why we have the signatures (which can also be disabled by people who don't want to download extra stuff...)

Ohh i see what you mean, I always set the image quality in the Photoshop to the heighst available, Tryed to save the image under JPEG format with LOW quality level which really makes the image look bad and still the size of the image is over 20kb, So to make things short and to avoid further hassle i will just save the file in GIF and upload it in a high quality,I think it's better to have diffrent image format in a high quality then having another image format with low image quality (and still not be able to upload the image cause of size limits) So eventually i will just use the GIF image format.
So thanks anyway for trying to help out. And i think the Profile picture and signature are two diffrent things, I dont think so putting a picture of yourself in the signature area will be smart.

I am a web developer myself, That's what i do for a living and i am kinda familiar with the way forums work (I used to/still develop mods and applications for IPB forums software never really got into VB so i am lacking in that area).

Another thing is that even saving the file in GIF and choosing low image quality it's still over 8KB it's near 10KB and there is nothing i could do to make it smaller then to just save it in GIF format at 90x90px.
Edit: and the GIF 90x90 is the image that i have as my profile picture right now.

That's really strange, I am sure i am not a Photoshop expert but when i save the file in JPEG format it prompts me to choose the quality then i choose the low quality from the dropdown list and i save the file, After that i still see the the image almost the same as it was before the quality change and the size is still above 8KB...I think i am doing something wrong just cant really tell what it is.
