The Russian Defense Ministry contracted the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to upgrade An-72 airlifters for Arctic operations. The aircraft has the engines above the wing which allows it to take off and land with a cargo of several tons. The ministry wants to have the takeoff weight, the range and payload increased, the Izvestia daily writes.

UK first four F-35B fighter jets come home to RAF Marham

The United Kingdom yesterday welcomed home its first four F-35B advanced fighter aircraft, which will be flown by the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. Russian S-400 air defense systems for Saudi Arabia: talks in progress

Saudi Arabia says negotiations over the purchase of Russian S-400 missile system are “advancing well.” The Saudi ambassador to Moscow, Rayed Krimly, said the two sides were working out the technical details of the contract: "We signed the contract during the King’s visit. הפרויקט הראשון של KNDS, שילוב של החברות KMW הגרמנית עם NEXTER הצרפתית, הניב פיתוח די מעניין המשלב צריח של טנק לקלרק עם תובה של לאופרד.
לדעתי, אין לדבר הזה כל ערך לצרפת עצמה לפחות, מאחר והתובה של הלקלרק יותר מתקדמת, אבל יש פה כנראה ערך בשביל מדינות המחזיקות בלאופרד ורוצות לשדרג.
בכל אופן, זה רק קונספט אחד שהוצג, כאשר ה-MGCS עצמו מכיל עוד מספר קונספטים שונים (4 במספר) שינוסו בעתיד. מבצעיות של אחד הקונספטים תהיה רק בשנת 2030 בשביל גרמניה, ו-2040 בשביל צרפת.

EUROSATORY 2018: CONTROP expands its ground operations, revealing SIGHT-HD

CONTROP Precision Technologies Ltd. – a company specializing in the field of electro-optics and IR defense and homeland security solutions – will reveal the SIGHT-HD, a specialized targeting EO/IR payload for Remote Weapons Stations(RWSs) and Armored Fighting Vehicles(AFVs), at EUROSATORY 2018.

“As we celebrate CONTROP’s 30th anniversary, we are proud to launch the SIGHT-HD at EUROSATORY, following an intensive development process,” says Hagay Azani, CONTROP’s new CEO.
“The SIGHT-HD was created especially for Remote Weapon Stations, to maintain bore-sight in conditions of shocks and vibrations. It incorporates digital and mechanical compensatory mechanisms that we have developed to significantly contribute to shooting precision.”

The SIGHT-HD is a gyro-stabilized payload that was especially developed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, facilitating mid-to-long range target acquisition, day and night, for mobile and stationary applications. When installed on AFVs, it is ideal for a wide range of applications, such as border surveillance, perimeter protection of sensitive installations, force protection, route clearance and more. At just 13kg, the low-weight payload is easily installed on any type of vehicle or weapon station.

The SIGHT-HD includes a high-performance Thermal Imaging (TI) camera using a 3-5µ Cooled IR detector with a continuous zoom lens; High Definition (HD) Color Day camera with a continuous zoom lens; and an Eyesafe Laser Range Finder (ELRF), all integrated into an all-in-one Line Replacement Unit (LRU). The advanced image processing features include local AGC on the TI and Day cameras; Video Enhancement; Automatic Video Tracker and Picture-in-Picture (PIP). A Laser Pointer, Control Unit (CU) and Digital Video Recorder (DVR) are also available as optional add-ons.

“The SIGHT-HD is the first in a family of dedicated SIGHT payloads that we are currently developing for mobile land applications, to meet our clients’ requirements.” says Azani. “The SIGHT-HD system is currently in the process of being evaluated by several important customers before an expected procurement.”

THUNDER is a multi-purpose 4×4 armored vehicle that can carry up to 12 people and a payload of up to 1.8 tons. It is built on commercial Chassis such as F-550 Ford and its crew compartment offers Level II/III, stanag 4569 protection.

Optional add-ons include: fire-fighting systems in the engine and crew compartment; a night vision system; NBC filtration system, Remote Control Weapon Station (RCWS), gunner turret etc. As a personnel carrier, the various applications for THUNDER vehicles include police; logistics; peacekeeping; ambulances and more.

AMIR is a multi-purpose 4×4 or 6×6 mine-protected vehicle that can carry up to 12 people and a payload of up to 3 tons. It has independent suspension for tactical mobility. Optional add-ons include: manual one-man turret 12.7/20/25/40mm caliber remote control weapon station; 81/120mm mortar carrier; missile launcher/ anti-tank missile launcher/anti-aircraft turret and more. Applications for AMIR include: reconnaissance; rapid intervention; personnel carrier for peacekeeping, ambulances, logistics and more.

The AMIR can be bullet protected up to Stanag 4569 level 4 and up to 10 Kg TNT mine.

Together with the client, we are working to establish assembly plants, creating jobs for locals and work for local subcontractors, allowing the client independence in managing the project, and reducing project costs by up to 25%. Eurosatory 2018: Otokar successfully debuts Tulpar Light Tank

Turkish company Otokar debuted a new version of its Tulpar multi-purpose vehicle platform integrated with CMI Cockerill’s 3105 turret at Eurosatory 2018 exhibition.

According to a statement of the company, new Tulpar Light Tank offers an effective solution for missions requiring high fire and destructive power. Thanks to its superior mobility, Tulpar Light Tank can operate in diverse terrains where the Main Battle Tanks cannot serve due to their weight and size; like bridge capacities or in built-up areas.

The vehicle is integrated with CMI Cockerill’s 3105 turret with autoloader, which is capable of firing all kinds of 105 mm NATO ammunition and the Falarick Gun Launched Anti-Tank Guided Missile (GLATGM) with its high pressure 105 mm tank gun.

The Fire Control System (FCS) with fully stabilized day/night (thermal imaging) sights and coincidence firing logic provides high first-round hit probability against static or moving targets and Hunter-Killer Capability provides single and multiple target engagements. CMI Cockerill 3105 turret has a two-man crew.

GDELS unveiled new medium mechanized bridge system

General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has unveiled a new medium mechanized bridge system based on the 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle at Eurosatory 2018.

The medium mechanized bridge system, called the Variable Folding Bridge (VFB), is designed to provide tactical gap crossing capability for mechanized infantry units. VFB allows the crossing of unprepared gaps up to 15 m for wheeled and tracked vehicles with loads up to MLC50.


The new Variable Folding Bridge (VFB) is a flexible and modern bridge system, which can be temporarily or permanently fitted on various medium-weight wheeled and tracked armored vehicles

With the Bridge Launching Mechanism (BLM) by Pearson Engineering, the Variable Folding Bridge can be attached to the vehicle via a standard Pearson Engineering Jettison Fitting Kit.

AM General showcases NXT 360 light tactical vehicle at Eurosatory 2018

AM General has unveiled the latest version of its 4×4 light tactical vehicle at Eurosatory 2018 exhibition, in Parish.

AM General took the opportunity at the Eurosatory to showcase its next-generation light tactical vehicle, called the NXT 360.

“Eurosatory is a great venue that will allow our global customers to get a first look at this versatile truck that can enhance their light tactical wheeled fleet in a timely and cost-efficient manner,” said Andy Hove, AM General President and CEO.

The company said the tactical vehicle will have increased survivability, off-road mobility and payload capacity. The vehicle includes increased kinetic energy threat protection and blast protection for the wheels, said Regis Luther, company vice president for engineering. AM General also added blast seats and blast mats and boosted the transparent armor to a B7 ballistic protection level.

Much like many of the unique product variants that are offered by AM General, the NXT 360 can be delivered as complete new vehicle that can be incorporated into new missions, or as an upgrade kit that can be integrated into existing vehicle fleets to gain the same advanced capabilities.

According to the company, the new vehicle is powered by a P400 turbocharged engine, with 250 horsepower, multi-fuel capability and 6-speed transmission, he said. Those improvements have helped to increase the vehicle’s fuel economy and raise the top speed, offering a smoother gear transition and reducing the interior noise level, he noted.

GDELS presented new variants of the ASCOD family of tracked vehicles, including ASCOD Medium Main Battle Tank (MMBT) and ASCOD Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) at Eurosatory 2018.

According to the company, both ASCOD vehicles have been developed using General Dynamics European Land Systems’ new “Common Base Platform Design” (CBP) with modular capability and open vehicle architecture with three power-pack solutions between 530, 600 and 800kW, either steel tracks or rubber bands and multiple configurations up to the crew of three plus 8 dismounts

Plasan unveiled the latest member of its Sandcat family armored vehicle

Israeli armoured vehicle specialist Plasan has unveiled the latest member of its Sandcat family armored vehicle at the Eurosatory 2018 exhibition in Paris.

During Eurosatory 2018, Plasan is showing its All-new M-LPV (Mine-resistant Light Patrol Vehicle) model, the first new vehicle based on Plasan’s 4th generation SandCat architecture.

According to the company, built around the same rugged Ford components, the M-LPV is the first SandCat engineered as a fully structural monocoque, doing away with a ladder-frame chassis.

The new chassisless design allows it to achieve a higher level of underbody mine protection without paying the usual price in weight and height. The M-LPV maintains the SandCat’s compact dimensions, easy access 5-door design, and sub-10t GVW while adding Stanag 2a/2b mine protection for all 8 occupants

The Black Eagle 50 is a VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) robotic observation system. It is an ideal solution for tactical maritime and land Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions.

The system has a steady hovering endurance of up to 3 hours and flight endurance of up to 4 hours. At only 30kg, the Black Eagle 50 is extremely lightweight, compact, with a maximum take-off weight of 35Kg, and payload capacity of 3Kg. It has a communication range of up to 100km, depending on the client’s requirements and a service ceiling of up to 9,000ft. Its total length is just 2540mm, while its maximum air speed is 70knots (126Km/h) and cruising speed of 47 Knots (85 Km/h).

“Currently, the Black Eagle 50 is in demo mode with a number of customers around the world ahead of expected orders in the coming months,” says Noam.

Norway's Nammo has unveiled a potentially revolutionary concept for an air-breathing, ramjet-powered, pseudo-missile that any standard 155mm howitzer can fire at targets more than 60 miles away. The U.S. Army has already expressed an interest in just such a projectile, which could also end up in service with the U.S. Marine Corps, and the round might finally offer a way for the U.S. Navy to make use of the cannons on its new, stealthy Zumwalt-class destroyers.

The defense contractor revealed a full-size mockup of the design, which it is simply calling the 155mm Solid Fuel Ramjet at present, at the biennial Eurosatory arms expo in the French capital Paris, which began on June 11, 2018. The firm expects to begin live-fire testing of the projectile in 2019 or 2020 and hopes to have the new ammunition in production and in operational service with a military by between 2023 and 2024.

לא רק במובן של טווחים ושינוי רדיקאלי בתו"ל של הארטילריה, אלא כטכנולוגיה בכלל.
החידוש הגדול ביותר הוא מנוע מגח סילון בעל דלק מוצק. זה לא עניין של מה בכך כי בניגוד למנועים
קיימים בהם יש תא בעירה בעל גאומטריה קבועה וקונוס חרטום שלרוב ניתן לכיוון בהתאם למהירות וללחץ האוויר, כאשר אל תא הבערה מוזרק דלק נוזלי, הרי שכאן מהיותו של הדלק המוצק חלק ממבנה תא הבערה, המבנה הרבה יותר פשוט כי אין צורך במשאבת דלק, בקרה על הזרקת הדלק ומיכל דלק נפרד.
מאידך - הקושי העיקרי (וכנראה פריצת הדרך) היא בגיאומטריה המשתנה של תא הבעירה ואיך זה נלקח בחשבון בתפעול המנוע.
נשאר עדיין לראות איך זה עובד, איך יסתדרו עם מטען חומר נפץ מוקטן למדי ומה יהיה מחירו של החימוש הזה.
