This still handout image from a propaganda video by the militant Somali Islamist group Shebab and released on July 8, 2009 by the SITE Intelligence Group shows a purported American member of a Somali terror group who blasted US President Barack Obama's speech last month to the Muslim world, the US-SITE Intelligence Group said July 8, 2009. The man identified as "Abu Mansour the American" said peace could only be reached if Washington disengages from Muslim nations like Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia, in a 27-minute video released to jihadist forums, including the SITE Intelligence Group which monitors extremist cells. Abu Mansour appeared in March in a propaganda video by the militant Somali Islamist group Shebab, aimed at foreign recruits and which featured English rapping and songs. The FBI has identified the Shebab group as the driving force behind the recruitment effort, and said Shebab also has ties to Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network. The video contains only a still image of the light-skinned and bearded Abu Mansour, who looks to be in his late 20s or 30s.

A US Marine (bottom L) from the 1st Combat Engineering Battalion of 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade directs a CH-53 helicopter as it delivers supplies for their convoy in Koshtay in Afghanistan's Helmand Province on July 11 2009. US Marines launched a major offensive into the Taliban heartlands of southern Afghanistan July 2 as President Barack Obama's new war plan swung into action. With dozens of aircraft ferrying out troops from various bases, the assault aimed to insert forces into insurgent strongholds in Helmand province in what officers said was the biggest offensive airlift by the Marines since Vietnam. Operation Khanjar (Strike of the Sword), involving nearly 4,000 US forces as well as 650 Afghan police and soldiers, would bring security to the Helmand River valley ahead of presidential elections on August 20, commanders aid.
