הונגריה עושה כבוד לחתן פרס נובל הישראלי
בודפשט - אברהם הרשקו, המדען הישראלי שזכה בפרס נובל השנה בכימיה, קיבל אזרחות כבוד בעיר הולדתו בהונגריה, כך מסרו בכירים ביום רביעי.

The town of Karcag, about 140 kilometers southeast of Budapest, awarded Hershko the title in recognition of his outstanding contribution to science, said Sandor Rozsa, the town's notary. The title will be presented at a special ceremony scheduled for March, Rozsa added.
Hershko was born in Karcag in 1937. During World War II, his father was taken as a forced laborer to the Russian front, while Hershko, along with his mother and brother, were sent to a local ghetto. From there, they were to be sent to Auschwitz, but for some unknown reason they were taken to Austria and survived the war in a work camp.
The entire family emigrated to Israel in 1950.
Two of Hershko's cousins now work as doctors in Karcag's hospital, while the youngest of his three sons is studying medicine in Budapest.
